The British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS) is pleased to launch the BCIS National Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest registry. Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) remains a significant problem for the NHS, with consistently poor outcomes. In 2020, in England alone, the ambulance service were called to around 90,000 OHCA’s, with resuscitation attempted in approximately one third of cases. Of those patients that are admitted to hospital with return of spontaneous circulation, just 8% survived to discharge.

It is the ambition of this registry to collect comprehensive clinical information on all patients suffering OHCA. This data will offer valuable insights into patient demographics, patterns of disease, allow us to track changes to clinical pathways and ultimately improve patient and co-survivor outcomes.
